Juicing
Juicing is an option for all our guests.
So, what is juicing? We use a juice machine to extract the juice from fresh vegetables and fruits and serve it in a glass! This delivers lots of vitamins and minerals in a large juice glass for you to enjoy. As the fruit and vegetables are now in liquid form it makes it much easier for the body to digest – much of the energy intensive digestion work normally carried out by the body, to break down the food, has been done. This in turn allows your body to divert energy towards repairing and rejuvenating worn out or unhealthy cells with ease.
Juices are made fresh for each meal by one of the kitchen team, so they contain the maximum nutrition.
You can choose to follow a juice cleanse during your stay, for one day, three days (this is our recommendation) or longer if you want. Juicing is great for your detox and weight loss retreat, as they are more calorie controlled than food (you will still detox and cleanse when eating our delicious food).
Flooding the body with all these vitamins and minerals gives your body the change to re-balance, to cleanse and heal, leading to you feeling brighter, lighter and more energised.

Three-day (or longer) juice cleanse
Some of our guests choose to do a juice cleanse, meaning they have juices, instead of meals. This means you will have three large juices each day (breakfast, lunch and dinner), plus a smaller afternoon juice (which is available to all our guests mid-afternoon).
If you are interested in this option, we recommend that you start with three days, usually the day after you arrive at the retreat. You can juice for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and have the afternoon juice too.
In the cooler months, we also offer you the option to choose a warm soup for the evening “juice”.
You are welcome to extend the length of time you juice; previous guests have juiced for 10 days or longer! It’s your retreat, so you decide.
Our health and wellbeing mentors are around if you have any questions or need any assistance.
Freshly made juices – two week menu and personalised juices
All juices are freshly made for you, for each meal, so you know they deliver the maximum nutrition.
We have a carefully designed, nutritionally balanced, two-week juice menu for you to enjoy. The juices use a range of different vegetables and fruits, to provide varying tastes and nutrients.
The juice menu is on display by the dining room, so you can easily check which juice is being served. There are set juices for breakfast and lunch. All our breakfast juices include avocado (but you can ask for it not to be added if you prefer).
As an important value for La Crisalida is choice, for dinner, you can select your own juice from our evening menu, or, if you prefer, you can choose which ingredients you want from our list and we’ll make it for you.
If you are allergic or intolerant to specific fruit or vegetables let us know and we can prepare a juice specially for you. We can also remove or reduce fruit sugars (see below).

Low fruit juice and pure vegetable juice options
For guests new to juicing we recommend that you follow the standard juice menu. For more seasoned juicers, or guests who wish to reduce the amount of fruit sugars (fructose) in their juices, we offer two additional options for every meal:
- Pure vegetable juices – no fruit, we swap any fruit items for vegetables instead
- Low fruit juice – we reduce the amount of fruit in the juice by half and replace with additional vegetables instead
You can indicate your preference on the meal & juice choice form, which is available by the dining room every day.
Prepare for your juice detox
Juicing can be quite a big dietary change for many people, particularly if your usual diet is quite rich or contain quite alot of sugars, caffeine, processed ready meals, take-aways, meat and/or dairy. Some guests find that it can take a couple of days to adjust to the natural and fresh flavours. It is possible that some guests might experience headaches or grumpiness with the change to juicing. If this is you, we suggest gently introducing yourself to juicing – have one juice per day, maybe for breakfast or lunch, rather than the full three-day juice cleanse.
If you do want to juice during your retreat, we recommend that you prepare for your juice detox retreat before arrival. Cut down on caffeine, chocolate, sugar, tobacco and alcohol in the week or two before you come. Aim to eat more fresh vegetables and fruit. Both of these actions will smooth the detox process and you will be less likely to experience some of the symptoms that can occur. We also suggest you increase your fluid intake significantly in the days running up to your retreat. Drink at least three litres of water each day (herbal teas count as part of this amount). Drinking plenty of water will ensure you are fully hydrated when you arrive, to help you feel at your best during your retreat.

Cleanse and Juice retreats
Drinking vegetable and fruit juice can help to cleanse. It can help the bodys natural elimination and detox processes. Sometimes an added benefit of juicing is weightloss. However, detox does not necessarily always mean weight loss. Some people want to do a juice cleanse but do not want to lose weight. That’s fine, we can add extra avocado to your breakfast and evening juices. It often surprises guests how our juices can leave them feeling full for hours.
Some free supplements are available in the dining room for you to add to your juice, or drink alongside your juice, if you choose. This includes ground flaxseed (for added omega oils), spirulina and psyllium husk.
If you are feeling hungry, a fruit bowl is always available in the dining room to help yourself.
You can also choose to eat the food and juice at each mealtime, and there is a small supplement for this option. Ask one of the reception team when you arrive.
Please be aware that juicing might not be suitable for everyone – for example, we do not recommend juicing for people with an eating disorder. Feel free to contact us if you have questions about juicing.
